Building a more collaborative team culture for faculty and administrators
Client Need
I was approached by the director of a school who wanted to address divergent priorities and a lack of collaboration among teachers, as well as between teachers and administrators, which had resulted in a tense and competitive environment.
My Approach
Develop a strategy to strengthen the school’s workplace culture.
Establish a faculty task force to articulate the core values of the school, based on the idea that an organization can most successfully achieve its mission when values are in alignment.
Identify existing strengths and challenges embedded in the current workplace culture as well as the desirable and aspirational workplace values the staff wanted to see incorporated moving forward.
Outcome
A workplace values agreement reflecting the input of staff members was created. The entire faculty signed the document, indicating their understanding of, and commitment to, adhering to agreed-upon workplace principles, values, and behaviors. The result was a tangible resource for employees to hold themselves and each other accountable for how they show up, get their work done, and interact with one another, all with the goal of creating an improved culture of collaboration and trust that accurately reflects the school’s organizational values.
